I’m torn. I want to upvote this because you’re awesome but I want to downvote this because I hate to see the best mod on the site leave. :(

@MageXy As an established user you see all these bad questions posted by new users. But to a new user, they asked a question for the first time, then you unload some of your anger and frustration from ALL the bad questions in the form of a snarky comment and they see hostility. They don't see all the other questions that you are projecting onto them. They just see that they came to get help, happened to ask something that was against the rules, and got blasted with snark. They are responsible for the questions they ask, but not for all the terrible questions that have ever been asked.

@MageXy The fact that you don't see how the tone of the comment is rude is exactly the culture problem SO currently faces and why the blog post is needed. This is not a "trolls ruining the site" problem, it is every user being just a bit more rude, so then the rudeness becomes an established part of our site. We need to stop tolerating the rudeness if we want to prevent this site from becoming even more hostile to future visitors.

@badp the VICE documentary on the charlottesville white supremacist rally has just as many stars as the canadian X gender passport news. But starred posts may not be as good an indicator as the number of overall messages on each topic.

@badp could you elaborate more on how the split becomes a gag order? How do we balance your concerns with the needs of those that still want to chat in the bridge but don't want to deal with heavy topics repeatedly overwhelming the room?

I'm not sure why this is so heavily downvoted. The "This Is Fine" room has been doom and gloom (with some bits of gallows humor thrown in) since it started. Everything I've heard about the motivations behind the new room was to split out the "the world is a mess right now" commiserating because it was overwhelming other discussions in The Bridge. Splitting it based on good feels/bad feels seems to match what is happening currently and it is working so far.

Actually unionhawk it is your job to answer it, please get to work.

If this gets picked, I expect a comment under the announcement along the lines of "What can I say except you're welcome"
