comment How do we want to handle tagging for questions related to WoW Classic?
@PeterCordes that makes sense if the question covers both games. Retagging a question based on its answer will probably result in a bunch of badly tagged questions after a few patches when the answer no longer applies to one of the games (and most people won't notice). Anyway, right now I don't see much of that happening. The only thing classic and retail have in common is the bnet client, which has its own tag, ...or a few basics, such as some races and classes.

@Robotnik I didn't say it's of no use, but I'd start with easier things first. Getting devs on board is a great idea, but also a tough challenge as they usually have their own repositories and KBs already. Filling our Q&A with questions (and answers) that pretty much simulate FAQs is way easier and requires no third party. It's just against our current rules to start with those beforehand.

That still doesn't change the fact that we won't reach Googlers in the early stages until we have a decent amount of questions, which is imho more important. Many people search for problems first, before going to the devs websites.

Well, currently we need more new questions than answers, so reaching out to game devs might not be the first thing to do. When a new game hits the shelves we should have some content ready already, so new players find us on Google already in early stages (where most of their questions occur). That's quite hard with our rules (unreleased = off-topic). I suggest to allow questions about games that are about to be released, even if that means some extra moderation effort, because they might still undergo some changes before their release.

@badp yup, I agree... that's where a mod should intervene. I already mentioned a case like that with when the community vote was obviously wrong .

IMHO binding votes are okay to use in clear cases or even when the community vote was obviously wrong. As long as the mods don't clear the queues all by themselves I'm fine with them using their powers. They've been elected because the community trusts them to use their privileges properly, so why not use them?

@pppery with your two examples you're right, but you should as well be more careful. IMHO you flag too many questions for no reason. E.g. you dupe questions with similar problems that are not actually the same. Or questions about the same command with completely different issues. But I really like your style of flagging sprees as it often maxes out my close votes, so keep up the good work. :)

Good and valid points from you guys. Looks like we keep them off-topic then.

It's fine. Bukkit forums are a good place (well, not always). But I believe that they're not the only place for those questions.

Of course, but that's not the topic of this meta.

We shouldn't let other forums distract us. There are plenty of forums, wikis and knowledge bases on the internet and the presence of those shouldn't be a reason to not ask those questions on Arqade.

My guess is that the binding delete vote by the mod was too quick and the post deleted before you had the chance to complete the review.

comment Why was this question put on hold?
@Mr.Bear assuming something is sometimes necessary, but would require at least some editing to clarify the question. As long as it keeps the original question intact you can try to do that in order to keep questions open (and answer them). In this particular case we've missed the chance to do that, but the OP had enough time to act as well.

@Mr.Bear and with custom resources? Only because NBT is no option this doesn't mean that there is no other way. "I have tried for an hour" - tried what? Commands, resource packs, cheating, praying,..? I get your point, because it's simple to say "Commands don't work", but what if they wanted a different solution (like custom resources)? That we don't know -> too broad.

@Mr.Bear seeing the right command, perhaps with wrong syntax or suited for the wrong platform helps a lot. A question about minecraft commands should at the very least include either commands that have been tried or error messages. Otherwise we don't know what the actual question is. Did they use the right command on the wrong platform? Or are there syntax errors? Or doesn't it work at all? We need at least something to begin with, so we don't start another guessing game.
