Personally, I don't think it's a good idea to outright change the tag to metal-gear-online-3 from what has come to be known as the more common title: mgs-5-online.
However, I would definitely see benefit to adding a synonym tag. That way, we get the benefits of the more common name, combined with the official name of the game.
The simcity tag should be a synonym for simcity-2013. That way, if they come out with a new title that they also want to call SimCity, we could just change the synonym.
sonic-the-hedgehog-2006 and tomb-raider-2013 are other examples of games where the tag name differs from the official name. Not to mention simcity-classic, which was named SimCity when ...
How Minecraft versions are organized
There are three main Minecraft codebases. To simplify, I'm gonna call them Java, Bedrock and Console.
Following are the versions of Java codebase:
Classic, Indev, Infdev, Alpha, Beta: pre-release development versions of the PC game
Minecraft (please note that, while this term is officially to be considered outdated, ...
With the tag renaming craze that came with longer tags I love to see the names that were shortened to be extended.
But for a game name to include it's subtitle when it's already a numbered entry, I feel like its going overboard?
I don't see a need for this. As Kaizerwolf stated, other games have words from their titles broken up. Pretty much all of our tags have titles broken up whether they have spaces in them or not. If I search "littl" in the tags, the tags from the LittleBigPlanet series show up at the top. From there it should be easy to find the correct tag to use. If you want ...
Since tags are meant reflect actual usage, and the title of the game is Dragon Quest VII (less the subtitle) in fact and not just styling, yes, the tag should be dragon-quest-vii, with a synonym from dragon-quest-7 pointing to it for convenience.
(It's probably “7” now just because whoever used the tag first wrote it that way. That doesn't establish any ...
Agreed. I've created donkey-kong-country-tropical-freeze and mapped dkc-tropical-freeze to it.
I've created donkey-kong-country-returns and deleted dk-country-returns. I deleted the original tag since DK Country is never how anyone ever refers to that series. It's either Donkey Kong Country or DKC.
This answer's primary focus is on full game name throughout the tag names.
This answer is for renaming all of the tags to be of the form:
This would result in:
civilization-5 and civilization-5-brave-new-world,
civilization-6 and civilization-6-rise-and-fall,
In cases where the full game name does not fit, each would be ...
The Dragon Ball tags have now been renamed by Robotnik.
Agreed, the Dragon Ball tags should be cleaned up for consistency.
Tags which should be renamed
dragonball-xenoverse -> dragon-ball-xenoverse
dragonball-xenoverse-2 -> dragon-ball-xenoverse-2
dragonball-z-legacy -> dragon-ball-z-the-legacy-of-goku
dbz-dokkan-battle -> dragon-ball-z-...
With the recent tag length increase* I've actioned this and changed the tag to need-for-speed-2-special-edition. The tag excerpt came along with the rename/merge.
* Please report any display issues or page errors with 26+ character long tags as a bug on Meta.
This is the state of these renames so far:
All base game tags and the series tag have been renamed:
the-elder-scrolls → the-elder-scrolls-series
daggerfall → the-elder-scrolls-2-daggerfall
morrowind → the-elder-scrolls-3-morrowind
oblivion → the-elder-scrolls-4-oblivion
skyrim → the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim
While Enderal does appear to be ...
The tag should be expanded to be consistent with other tags on the site
Looking at tags for numbered games, we already are in the habit of using the full name of the game including the subtitle. For instance:
This answer is more to clarify some points that I made in comments regarding SEO and to provide image evidence of what I'm talking about with regards to Page (or 'Nav') Title vs Question Title, what Google uses, what changing a tag will do, and so forth.
For the purposes of example, I'll use this question: So I was out drinking last night...how do I remove a ...
