The 2ds and 3ds tags can probably be merged.....BUUUT before we do, should we have a look at the way we're tagging the entire 3DS line of consoles? We do currently seem to have tags for most of the major console revisions:
According to the Nintendo 3DS Product Family, the 2DS, 3DS and 3DS XL are substantially similar ...
There are noted differences between the two games. The best example I can come up with (thanks to the recent changes to the okami questions) is this question, which asks about a mini game that is not present in the PS3 remake.
A question asking about the absence of that minigame would not apply to the original release of the game, only the remaster. Thus, ...
Bad idea, both releases have different files, and were built differently. AOE2 requires a different Direct X then the HD built version, so if Joan Of Arc comes in and asks why doesnt my pc render AOE2 properly, then the tag AOE2 HD would not fit at all.
Remember one was built for the 98 era the other for the Win 8.1 era. This alone requires 2 tags. Not to ...
It looks like Wrigglenite went ahead and re-tagged the two questions to fire-emblem-the-sacred-stones.
Note that our general preference is to use the full, official title for the tag name whenever possible, only deviating from this for games with long names, or for SEO purposes (e.g. the PlayStation tags: ps1 etc)
I've gone ahead and made the main tag armagetron-advanced, as that is the current official project name. As I mentioned in the comments above, the other names were chosen for specific releases to avoid trademark issues according to Wikipedia.
I've also added retrocycles and armacycles-advanced as synonyms, and added a basic wiki to the tag. Hopefully this ...
I don't think this is a good idea. Even if most of the questions for Spigot also apply to Bukkit as you claim, they're still separate programs that work different in some respects, so knowing how to do something in one of them might not apply to the other. This would be similar to merging C and C++ on Stack Overflow, or merging Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 on ...
After learning more about the different versions, I no longer agree with this listing. A new discussion is here: Pocket Edition is now Bedrock. Why PE is not a synonym? When should the PE tag be used?
(Posting as answer, because it's long, has formatting and at least offers a partial solution.)
I would say we should allow as much specification ...
I don't know much about DirectX-Y, but it seems weird to me to combine different versions of it into one tag. A game with huge similarities between version 1 and 2 is also not combined into one tag, why would this be true for software?
I think it could be allowed to stay. It's a little general, but build orders are a big part of SC2 strategy, and I can see people using this tag, searching for it, favoriting it, etc.
On the down side, it is a little generic, and I don't think tags like sc2-strategy, sc2-micro, or in general gamename-tactictype are a good idea. I especially don't think we ...
Here's my counterproposal:
Create the street-fighter-4-series tag. Manually apply it to questions that do not apply to any SF4 game in particular.
Leave the rest of the questions tagged with their game name.
