A cheat in a multiplayer game, for the purposes of determining whether a question violates our cheating guideline, is a tool that uses out-of-game resources to give you an advantage that the other players in the game don't have. This does not include exploits in the game engine. If the process involves manipulating objects in-game in such a way that you ...

As we determined pretty early on, a cheat is a valid answer if and only if the only person you're cheating is yourself. If your question is how to be a better spy in TF2, an answer suggesting you run your own server and noclip through the map so you can easily sneak around and retreat to absolute safety is not for the purposes of our website a "valid" ...

If a developer designed a cheat to exist, then yes, that is absolutely on topic. This includes modding capabilities - if the game supports mods, then most questions in this realm are okay here. If a developer did not design a cheat to exist, or if a game is not supposed to support mods but they exist anyway, then it might step into the realm of illegal ...

In general, asking about built-in cheat codes is fine for single-player games. But not cheats for multiplayer games (not that many multiplayer games have built-in cheats). If the (single-player) game requires mods to cheat, it is probably a better idea to ask something like "how to do I get unlimited money in [game]?" and allow the answers to suggest mods, ...

Our current cheat policy says A cheat in a multiplayer game, for the purposes of determining whether a question violates our cheating guideline, is a tool that uses out-of-game resources to give you an advantage that the other players in the game don't have. and Remember that questions that break the terms of service of the game in question are also ...

Personally, I see no problem with your proposed question. You are simply asking about a fairly benign thing (creating a second account for an MMO, with no ill-intent) and wanting to know if this would go against the game's ToS. I agree also that the legalese for ANY modern ANYTHING is complicated beyond belief, and tends to be unreadable by the common person ...

Such questions in the past have not been closed. Here is one example. I see no reason to close them. Sure, maybe we don't want to help people specifically cheat online, but cheating single player is another matter. I don't think we should disallow questions just because the information could be used to also cheat in multiplayer. We're not the gaming police.

For reference, here is the question in...question: https://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/197628/is-there-any-way-to-cheat-hack-tiny-death-star-on-ios It shouldn't have been closed as off topic for being about cheats, since those are fine, in single player games. Play however makes you happy as long as you're not negatively impacting others. However, ...

Cheats are valid answers, it's as simple as that. People come to Gaming.SE to find solutions to their problems and cheats invariably solve those problems. If we say to limit cheats to questions that specifically ask for cheats or "there is no other way", then we have a problem. How do we know when "there is no other way"? Like our problem with lore, that ...

It seems to me that there are two main factors when it comes to whether a glitch/bug/cheat/exploit/etc is acceptable or not. What is the counterplay? If it's just something else that other players can watch out for and reasonably react to, that seems fine. If there's nothing that other players can do about it, or they have to go very out of their way to do ...

Do we have any example(s) of this? If so, lets make a decision for that particular question. If we don't, this discussion is not worth having. Trying to come up with a general-case solution is hard enough when we do have enough incoming questions to warrant creating blanket rules. Without that problem, there's no point in discussing it. #Lifehacks

In my opinion, the question "What is a glitch and what is a cheat?" is not as important as "What sorts of glitches should we support in questions?", but I will give my opinion on both these topics. What is the line between a glitch and a cheat? Naively, a cheat is something that was added intentionally by the developer, in one way or another. If a ...

You bring up an interesting point. I think its important to read into the intent of the question. The intent of this question is to find out how to cheat in a multiplayer setting, which would be off-topic. Just because you COULD do this on your own server, doesn't mean 99.9999% of the people reading this question will. We don't want to spread questions like ...
